How to Optimizing CPU Performance

Step 1: Access the Configuration Settings in Mariana's Standalone Application

You are able to adjust some settings within the Mariana software directly! Here is how you would do so:

  1. Open the Moog Mariana Synth plugin.
  2. Click on the Settings icon, usually located in the top-right corner of the plugin interface.
  3. Navigate to the Configuration tab.

Step 2: Adjust Buffer Size for Performance

There are further methods for adjusting your performance within your Mac or PC. Below are the instructions on how to do so:

macOS:

  1. In the Configuration tab, look for the Buffer Size setting.
  2. Increase the buffer size to reduce the CPU load. Note that a larger buffer size will increase latency, so find a balance that works for your needs.
  3. Ensure that your macOS system is optimized by closing unnecessary applications and processes running in the background.

Windows:

  1. Similar to macOS, find the Buffer Size setting in the Configuration tab and increase it to reduce CPU load.
  2. On Windows, also ensure that your power settings are optimized for performance. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.
  3. Disable unnecessary startup programs using Task Manager to free up system resources.

For Windows users,  DPC Latency may cause performance issues with Mariana. This article [Troubleshooting DPC Latency] walks through further troubleshooting.

Step 3: Optimize CPU Usage in Your DAW

Print MIDI Tracks:

  1. Convert your MIDI tracks to audio. This process is often referred to as "freezing" or "printing" the tracks.
    • Select the MIDI track that uses the Mariana synth.
    • Use the bounce or render function in your DAW to create an audio track from the MIDI.
    • Disable the original MIDI track to free up CPU resources.

Disable Unused Tracks:

  1. Disable any MIDI or audio tracks that are not currently in use to save CPU space.

Additional Tips for macOS and Windows:

  1. 1. macOS Users:
    • Use Activity Monitor to check for any resource-hogging applications.
    • Ensure your system is updated to the latest version of macOS for improved performance and stability.
  2. Windows Users:
    • Use Resource Monitor to track and manage resource usage.
    • Keep your system drivers updated, especially audio and chipset drivers.

Important Tips to Remember

  • Regularly Save Your Work: Optimizing settings and freezing tracks can sometimes lead to unexpected behaviour, so save your project frequently.
  • Monitor Your CPU Usage: Keep an eye on your DAW’s CPU meter to ensure that your changes are having the desired effect.
