Moog Claravox Centennial | General Troubleshooting

For general troubleshooting of the Claravox, we recommend the following steps in order:
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Antenna Calibration
Perform an Antenna calibration by using the guide found HERE.
Global Reset
- Reset all global settings through the editor via Settings > App > Restore Factory Presets.
- Reset all CV settings through the editor via Settings > Global > Reset CV Out to Defaults, Reset CV In to Defaults.
Firmware
- Load the firmware through the editor via Settings > Information > Update Firmware.
- Or use the standalone Firmware Updater found HERE.
General Troubleshooting
- Ensure your Claravox is placed on a mic stand away from electronic devices that may interfere with the signal.
- The volume and pitch antennas are fully inserted into the chassis.
- Keep any cables or wires tucked away from the antennas. It may be worth setting the instrument up in another and power outlet to compare response.
Volume Bleed
Latent signal can be present across all Claravox given the varying nature of how it is implemented, however it can be diminished with proper set up and gain staging. If you are using an amplifier, you run the risk of hearing volume bleed while sending a line level signal to an instrument level input. If you have the option to lower the gain on your amplifier, the amount of bleed would reduce. Introducing a mixer between your Claravox and sound source allows you to adjust your settings on the mixer at lower volumes, and higher volumes on your sound source. With this configuration, minimized bleed can be achieved.
Pitch Instability
Intermittent jumpiness is an artifact of a very sensitive instrument. This behavior can be seen across all Theremin. If your Claravox is close to a wall or furniture, close to other electronics, or in a room full of other musical instruments, then you might experience very intermittent jumpiness. We recommend following the troubleshooting steps above to mitigate this behavior.
ECN
Intermittent function of both the pitch and volume antennas was an issue on early revision Claravox between SN: 0-344. This was due to a protective coating on the metal that could contribute to a poor connection. If your Claravox falls in this category, then a metal update will help mitigate this problem.
