Some users have reported issues when downloading Moog firmware or editor files from the Moog Music website. On Windows, browsers like Chrome might display warnings that the file "can't be downloaded securely," while Mac users might face challenges with file downloads failing. This guide will help you troubleshoot these issues and get your downloads working properly on both platforms.

Troubleshooting for Windows:

If you're seeing a message like "___ can't be downloaded securely", follow these steps to resolve it:

  1. Chrome or Edge:

    1. Next to the warning, click on the three dots.
    2. Select Keep to allow the download to proceed.
  2. Firefox:

    1. Click on the download arrow in the top right corner.
    2. Select Allow Download.
  3. Disable SmartScreen Temporarily:

    • On Windows, SmartScreen might block downloads from unknown publishers. This can be done directly through Microsoft Edge;
      1. Access Windows Settings:

        • Press Windows + I or open Settings via the Start menu.
        • Go to Privacy & Security and select Windows Security.
      2. Open App and Browser Control:

        • Click on Open Windows Security at the top.
        • In the Windows Security window, click on App & Browser Control.
      3. Disable Reputation-Based Protection:

        • Under Reputation-based Protection, click Settings
        • Toggle off the SmartScreen options, such as Check apps and files, SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge, and Potentially unwanted app blocking

Troubleshooting for Mac:

Mac users might face different browser restrictions when downloading firmware or editor files. Here’s what to do:

  1. Safari Security Block:

    • Go to Safari > Settings > Security.
    • Disable Block pop-ups and Enable JavaScript
    • Then, go to Privacy and uncheck Prevent cross-site tracking
  2. Override Security Warning in macOS:

    • Once the file is downloaded, navigate to the Downloads folder.
    • Right-click the file and choose Open.
    • If prompted with a security warning, select Open Anyway from System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
  3. Clear Browser Cache:

    • Go to Safari > Clear History
    • Choose All History, then restart your browser and try downloading again.

Additional Tips:

  • Try a Different Browser: If the download still doesn't work, try using a different browser such as Firefox, Chrome, or Edge.
  • Check Network Security Settings: Some security software or firewalls might block downloads. Temporarily disable these and try again.
  • Ensure Internet Connection: Sometimes slow or unstable internet connections can cause download failures. Make sure your connection is stable.
