How do I record notes live into the Moog One's step sequencer?

Modified on Wed, 5 Jul, 2023 at 10:23 AM

Each synth layer has its own polyphonic step sequencer that can play up to 64 steps. For each step you can record notes, as well as modulation data either by playing it in real time or by entering data for each step.

To record notes live into the sequencer, first make sure the sequencer’s ON button is lit up.  By clicking the MORE button, you can see whether there is already a sequence recorded (many presets have existing sequences). If you want to record over an existing sequence, simply click the CLEAR SEQUENCE soft button above the display. You can then set the length of your sequence and clock divisions using the soft knobs.

Once you have your parameters set up for recording, press the play button to start the sequencer. Then activate the record button to play notes into it. To stop recording simply press the record button again, and it will continue to scroll through the sequence while allowing you to play over it without recording any new notes.

You can also record modulation changes by sweeping a knob on the One’s front panel after turning on STEP MOD. Each knob you turn will record into a new lane in the modulations window (which you can access by selecting STEP EDIT and then choosing the MODULATIONS tab using the soft buttons above the screen).

Alternately, notes and modulations can be entered step by step by simply hitting record without pressing the play button first.

And if you want the sequence you are currently recording in, to play in sync with the sequencer on one of the other two synth layers, simply press the panel focus buttons simultaneously for each of the layers you want to run, and then press the PLAY button in the sequencer section.
